What We Stand For

At the heart of natural skincare lies a simple yet powerful ingredient—beef tallow. For centuries, this nutrient-dense fat has been used for its reliable ability to hydrate, nourish and protect the skin. Today, at Poverty Valley & Co, we’re bringing the age-old benefits of tallow back to life with our favored tallow products.

Why tallow? It’s packed with vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with essential fatty acids that your skin loves. We’ve created our tallow lotion with care and the belief that what you put on your skin should be as natural and pure as possible. No parabens, no synthetic fragrances, just real ingredients that work and we're thrilled to share it with you.

Why Us? Our lotions, balms and honey are more than just an average product—it’s a labor of love, made right here from our homestead with the finest locally-sourced, grass-fed beef tallow. We’re passionate about creating something natural, nourishing, and effective for your skin and body, using ingredients that come straight from the land, and some quite literally from our back yard! Our homestead-based approach means that each product is made with intention, using local resources and time-honored method. We believe in offering you something that feels as good as it works, because we want you to experience the real, nourishing benefits of what we create.

We invite you to try our tallow products and feel the difference that local, homemade care can make. Thanks for supporting our homestead and for trusting us with your skin and health!

Meet the Joneses

We are the third generation of Jones’ to live
on our farm in Seneca, Kansas. We have two children and enjoy spending time outdoors with nature tending to our chickens and honey bees. Poverty Valley was established in the early 1950’s when my husband's grandparents, Wilma and Clyde Jones, purchased the property. Something that makes this property so special is Sheena, the Queen of the Jungle, grew up on the property before my husband’s family purchased the homestead. The property still features the original farmhouse that is over one hundred twenty years old. Brady’s Pappa, Clyde Jones, planted every tree on the property making it a beautiful place to sit in the shade. Wilma, Brady’s grandmother, Mamma, as we all call her, still lives with us on the homestead. She is 87 years old and still insists on mowing the yard, cleaning the gutters, and lighting the brush pile on fire. The home place is rich with life and love and prospering everyday through its past traditions and future endeavors.

Storage Information

Temperature sensitivity of Tallow Products:

Our tallow-based products are naturally sensitive to temperature
changes. Due to their composition of natural make up without any preservatives,
they can soften, melt, or change consistency in warm conditions, particularly above
85 degrees. Please note we cannot be held responsible for any product that arrives
melted due to high temperatures during transit or storage. We take precautions
to ensure products are shipped in stable conditions and shipped using insulated
packing mailers but if left out in warm temperatures it will inevitably melt.
To avoid this bring your packages inside as soon as possible in the warmer
months.

If your product does arrive melted or in a softened state place the product in a refrigerator or a cool place away from direct sunlight.Once the product has cooled and started to solidify, you might want to stir to ensure an even texture, especially if it has separated. Please remember, melting does
not affect the quality or efficacy of the product; it only changes its texture
temporarily. We recommend storing your tallow product in a cool, dry place to
maintain their optimal consistency. When stored properly our tallow-based products
have a shelf life of 6-12 months.

Please note that these are general guidelines and that natural products like tallow-based lotions do not have the extended shelf life of commercial products with synthetic preservatives.

We appreciate your understanding and commitment to our handcrafted quality. Your satisfaction is paramount, and while we can’t accept returns, we are committed to ensuring you receive exactly what you expect from us here at Poverty Valley.
